The island is known for strong typhoons usual path. Probably the strongest typhoons ever recorded in Philippine history has devoured this island before. Known for its magnificent landscapes, beaches, caves, falls and other beautiful scenery. Virac, Catanduanes is the major municipality in the province. The word Virac is derived from a Spanish word "burac", meaning flower.
